Clearing the decks

I promised myself, after the last sale, it was time to reclaim the house. No more piles of stuff on their way to a stall, I need to put everything away, organise my home - and my mind, which seems to be a bit all over the place at the moment. So, while everyone was out at football this morning, and with the sun streaming in, I set to work to make some inroads into this (and there is a lot more, out of the shot!).

I haven't seen the surface of this table for quite a few months now. After a flurry of putting away, lots of trips to and from my shed, some beeswax polish and a bit of elbow grease, it was looking like this....

You didn't really think it would end up being completely empty, did you?
The fabrics on top of the table are my finds from the Vintage Christmas Boutique at Woburn Abbey. I really didn't buy much, although I was tempted lots of times, but mainly by things such as Edwardian sheer lace dresses for £95, which was never going to happen.

At the Foxtail Lilly sale, I spent just a couple of pounds on this gorgeous little brooch:

I am delighted by this. It is so clever.
Now I am off to clear the decks still further (I hope) by putting some of my unsold items on ebay.
Hope you're having a good weekend.

PS I shall be doing a giveaway next week. Watch this space!

  1. It feels great doesnt it to have a good clearout - I have had a go at that this weekend, although it wasnt anything like a craft sale that led to the house getting messy - it was OFSTED and an MSc assignment!

Now both are out of the way I can re-clutter the house with making things for Christmas pressies and swaps - yay!!

    1. Yes, it does the soul good to clear the decks. I think OFSTED and an MSc assignment is a pretty good excuse for letting things pile up a bit! I must admit, I feel for any teacher undergoing OFSTED, I just can't imagine what that must be like.
I hope it went well for you.

    1. Thanks Karen. Yes, I did find some things I'd forgotten about, and as I have had to tuck things away in lots of corners, I am sure I will forget where I have put everything when next sale season comes around!

  4. you really do have such a warm and welcoming home through your photos- that sofa and the beautiful fabrics are just heavenly! i also go for creamy colours with red florals even a splash of blue floral too an love vintage greens. ive been making a patchwork with some old charity shop fabric finds- its always good to have a grand sort out. I managed to get my mother to drive to a tip for me with a load of old broken toys and tat, felt so much clearer in my mind with out so much clutter in the bedrooms. And always good to have a little re-jiggle about of furniture and ornaments and breath new light into old but new things ;0)X

    2. Thanks for your lovely comments, I take it as a real compliment. I love colour, I admire the neutral look, but I can't make it work for me, I have to see jewel colours around me, especially when they are a little bit worn and faded. Your patchwork sounds lovely, too, I hope we will be seeing it on your blog soon! :)
Isn't the brooch gorgeous, I just spotted it as we were all packing away at the sale on Friday night...
