Saturday vintage

Here is a sight to gladden the eyes. Such a pretty setting in a small, snowy church.

We had more snow in the night, but the sun was shining strongly this morning. I slithered my way along the country lanes. There wasn't much treasure in the jumble sale, but it was so friendly and I found a few bits and pieces. A silver tea spoon and a cute dish:

Some cups and saucers. I thought I wasn't buying any more china? Oh well, I liked the red stripe and thought they might do for a magazine pic at some stage (which is my excuse for everything). The stamp underneath says 22 carat gold. Interesting.

I'd gone through the local newspaper with a fine tooth comb to track down other sales as I felt in sore need of a vintage fix, and I found another event this afternoon, this time in a church hall and billed as a 'New Year fete'. A lovely old fashioned bric a brac stall laden with things awaited and I found this pretty glass butter dish.

I am also collecting spring-like things for an Easter magazine cover, so picked up a few bits of primrose and cowslip mis-matched china and a few second hand books.

So that was a very good Saturday.

  4. Well at least you have a legitimate excuse! I said no more pretty china and bought a beautiful coffee set yesterday circa 1930 with dainty cups covered with roses and the prettiest pot and jug. I have nowhere safe to keep it as the cupboards are groaning and leaving it out is not an option with cats and boys. I would love a good rummage in a jumble sale but we don't have them down here. 1. Hi Karen
That sounds lovely, you need a blog so I can see it! It will be an investment, you can look at it like that ;) and I'm sure you'll find a little nook for it somewhere.
I have noticed a few jumble sales popping up around here recently which is great news.

    1. Hi, welcome along, you're my 90th follower! Hope you continue to enjoy the blog. I love red, too, I wouldn't have bought the china if it hadn't had that little flash of colour.

  7. I love the butter dish and the red and gold tea cups. They will be prefect for a afternoon tea on Valentine's Day. Maybe you should invite a couple of your dearest friends. As usual your blog is delightful.
Have a lovely day, stay warm and don't slip on the ice.

  10. Hello again - catching up with your lovely posts. Did you come across a Noddy clock at the jumble by any chance....
We could play virtual snap here - I have those 'starry cups' but in a later design shape and also the primrose cups and saucers. Love your patchwork too!
    Best wishes

    1. Hehe, no Noddy clock. I am going to keep my eyes peeled.
I so nearly didn't buy these cups. I just couldn't decide (they were £2 the set, which is quite pricey for a jumble) but in the end the red stripe just did it for me.
