Something cheering needed

It has been a dripping, grey, foggy day here, so I needed to look at some photos that are warm and friendly.
I am feeling sad because we have just heard that an elderly family member has been the victim of a scam that has robbed him of a lot of money.
Please, if you have elderly folk in your family who live alone, warn them not to accept work from strangers who call at the door offering to cut their trees or replace loose tiles.
My relative, who is in his 90s and physically frail, but usually very much on the ball, has been defrauded and intimidated by three cowardly men who knocked on his door. The fraud took place over a number of weeks. I simply cannot believe that people could be so cruel.
The police are involved now, but I wrote this post because I want others to be aware of this practice.

  2. Aw poor thing, I don't suppose he'll see his money again not to mention his trust in people, I can't believe how someone can do this sort of thing to elderly folk. Lucey x

  3. This is something that makes my blood boil, I'm normally such a calm person, but put me in a room with them....
I hope they get caught soon, and locked up! Ada :)

  4. Oh that is so sad, I'm so sorry for him, as I know how vulnerable old people can feel. There are some bad people in this world for sure, I hope he is ok xx

  5. Such a low thing to stoop to. I look after an elderly lady who it emerges has given thousands to scams that come through the letterbox. Enter this Australian lottery and win this.... More shockingly (is that a word?) she lives with no heating or fridge or washing machine.
Some things are just so wrong.

    1. These lotteries are worryingly common, I know a couple of friends whose parents have lost money to them.

  6. This is so sad , I just do not know how these people live with themselves, I hope your relative can put all this behind him, but I think it will be very hard,
My Mum was in her 80s when a double glazing salesman invited himself into her home and would not leave until she signed a contract, luckily I rang her, I knew something was wrong and went straight round to see her, dealt with the obnoxious man and sent him on his way, but it really effected her for months
    Hope these men get caught

  7. There are no polite words to describe these miserable cowards. I hope he can recover from this and put it behind him. Funnily enough I heard a similar story a few days ago from a neighbour. Shakes your faith in people when these things happen. Karen xx

    1. Thanks for your kind words. We are very worried about the effect it will have on him. The family are trying to be there as much as possible, and he has a panic button installed incase they return again, but living with the fear that they will come back would shake the most robust of us, let alone someone who is 95 years old. Like you Ada, I am normally a calm person, but this just makes my blood boil.
