I never pass up an old ABC book or game if I see one. Here are some I have collected over the years from jumbles, fairs and boot sales.
I would love to try lino printing, and this little book has some very good and simple instructions, so maybe I will do it this year.
Does anyone remember these work books from school? I recall them very clearly from the late 1960s. I loved the spelling ones. I remember struggling with the maths version though...probably still would...
Cool typeface.
Could not resist the jolliness of this wooden word game....
A lovely collection, the maths book look familiar but it was such a long time ago!

It was a long time ago Thea! Scary really. But I do remember them (my mum also kept lots of my school books, she never throws anything away, so I've got the evidence, too!)
DeleteI remember trying lino printing at school and it was great fun - we made nature inspired designs. I don't think our children learn handwriting skills these days - I can remember endless lines of practice letters - rather boring. Karen xx
ReplyDeleteWe did endless lines of practice letters, too, lots of 'u's and 'f's all in a row. I loved it, but I can't imagine that my sons would have enjoyed that particular exercise...
DeleteThere is always something quaint about the vintage ABC books as they have unusual subjects and illustrations that we wouldn't use now, like inkwells and weathercock, which are in some books I have. Yes, I too, remember the spelling and writing cards.... brings back memories ...
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right. The words are often quite complicated for a very young audience. Quaint is the right description.
DeleteI had the wooden picture board game when I was little - the same make, slightly different pics, but I played with it for hours - happy memories!
ReplyDeleteAhh, that's nice. This one is in fab condition, still so bright!
