The pre-Christmas work deadlines and seasonal preps are ramping up a bit around here, but it's time to stop by and say hello.
Busy days, and lots of this going on in the evening (phone pics at night so apologies for quality):
The top of the quilt is now complete! It is quite fragile, owing to my bad stitching, so I just need to go over a few places and mend any small holes that may have appeared (not helped by the fact that I've been watching the sub-titled Borgen on BBC4 while I'm working. Not a good combination, Sub-titles and stitching).
But the paper templates are out and it feels as if I am one step further on the quilty road.
I have new glasses. Proper prescription glasses for the first time in my life. They feel quite strange. I have a double use lens, and it makes them very thick and heavy, like bottle-tops. I expect I'll get used to them and they do help when I am sewing.
I went on a short trip to a pretty market town called Uppingham, and visited the second hand bookshop to buy some Christmas presents. This has to be the best bookshop ever.
I found some beautiful things in here.
The Rutland Bookshop, if you're ever passing that way.
I would have spent all day in that bookshop! I love your quilt and you put me to shame as I have only been knitting mittens whilst watching Borgen. I bought a pair of glasses from Boots as I am too cowardly to go to the optician. xx
ReplyDeleteKnitting mittens is extremely impressive Karen! I am not convinced my specs are quite right, but I felt that I should get an eye test as I spend so much time at the computer and my sight is definitely getting a bit fuzzy when I read.
DeleteDear Streetcomber
ReplyDeleteUppingham is lovely little place - just right for an afternoon's exploration. I think the berries in your header may be a type of Sorbus. Your quilt looks amazing, by the way.
I can sympathise about the glasses - print is blurred and I haven't a hope of threading a needle without my glasses. (My optician said that it's all down to age and our eyes weren't designed for close up work - they were made to see prey animals a distance away - very comforting?!)
Best wishes
Ellie
Hi Ellie
DeleteThank you for identifying the berries. I was hoping someone would tell me. I have not seen any before, a whole tree full as well. And yes, Uppingham is great at the moment, some lovely shops have opened as well as the antiques shops and book shops that have been there for a while.
Fiona
Your quilt looks beautiful ... a wonderful mix of colours.
ReplyDeleteI could waste hours in a bookshop like that!
Thank you! Yes, I admit I was there for quite some time, and not all my purchases were presents for other people...:)
DeleteYour quilt is looking fab! What an achievement and I agree Uppingham is lovely. I visited back in the summer.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt
ReplyDeleteI would spend all day in the book shop if I could
