Thinking printing
I can't stop thinking about printing, so I've finally ordered some inks and a roller from Great Art Supplies. My Dad has given me a set of lino print cutters, and I have some lino already, so I now I just need to work out a design. I did these leaves at the Folksy Summer School last August.
Of course, it is much harder than it looks! Our tutor had created some amazing designs.
I do love an artists notebook, especially when it looks like this! This is not mine, I hasten to add....
Some of the other people at the summer school had created some amazing designs. Aren't those trees great? Still, you can only improve by getting stuck in and practicing. Rome wasn't built in a day. Etc. Eventually, I would love to do another class, but for now, I think I could do with just experimenting and having a go on my own.
Are you taking up any new skills this year?

That's a great start! simple designs certainly have the most impact. I used to like lino cutting, (another thing to try and get round to sometime...) the trouble is the days just seem to go so quickly, is it my age?
ReplyDeleteIt's strange, since my 50th birthday I have felt that I needed to get a move on and do some of the things that I have been thinking and talking about for so long! So I am making time ...it helps that one son is away at uni and the other is old enough to be pretty independent...
DeleteI remember doing lino printing when I was doing my art GCE way back. And potato printing too!! Good luck with your new pursuit.
ReplyDeleteDear Streetcomber
ReplyDeleteI loved lino printing, both at A level and then when I revisited it as part of my Foundation course. I'm not terribly good, but ended up with some prints I was pleased with. I also enjoyed collographs too, so that's another thing you could try?
Best of luck with the lino printing - I look forward to seeing your progress.
Best wishes
Ellie
Hi Ellie, I did screen printing as part of my A level art, but not lino. I will investigate collographs, that's a new term to me. Thanks for letting me know about it.
DeleteI was given a lovely book called Hand Printing from Nature for my birthday and I have bought some fabric paints in the hope I can find a moment to have a go. I loved lino printing at school and I learnt to make my own paper too which I'd love to try again. I shall enjoy seeing your designs develop. xx
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fabulous book Karen, I will have a look. I hope you manage to find time to have a go (and then you need a blog so we can see the results!).

ReplyDeleteHi Ada, so lovely to have a head full of ideas, even if it does lead to insomnia sometimes!
