If you go down to the woods....

After hail, thunder and driving rain yesterday, some sun appeared today. I had been promising myself a trip to the bluebell woods and thought I'd better get down there while there are still some flowers left. It was very beautiful with the sunbeams winking through the trees and a profusion of spring flowers.

I had forgotten how lovely they smell. It was very muddy underfoot, but everything looks so lush.

My eldest son left school yesterday (apart from exams), and husband and youngest have just left for a week's holiday in Scotland: it's been hectic at home so it was nice just to take an hour out and feel the calm of the woods.

I found these incredible fungi. Very Hobbit-y. In fact, the woods had a magical air about them today.

Mossy logs, winding paths and carpets of flowers.

  1. What beautiful woods - I still haven't made it to ours yet, think I'd better get a move on! Little Sis finished yesterday too - can't believe she won't be going back after half term - where does the time go? Jane x

  2. Gorgeous bluebells. I have noticed lots of them this year, not just in woodland but along the roadsides too.

    1. Hi Lynne,
Thank you for the message via Hettie (and the correct spelling :)) I am so glad that you have come across him and indeed have a link direct to him. I found him at university 30 + years ago, but he's a poet I've always come back to. There are some beautiful words in his poems, they are very fresh, almost like lyrics.

  6. Woods are the loveliest places at this time of year and all the flowers have arrived at the same time around our way. Had a lovely drive through the lanes with a friend a few days ago but its been raining since. Good luck to eldest with his exams and enjoy your peace. Karen xx

  8. The bluebells look so great and you are very lucky to find them. I'm still to go to the usual places and hope that the delay in the spring will allow me to still see them. Take care. xx

    1. I think you should be lucky if you go soon. They looked as if there might be another week of them to go, although the heavy rain didn't help. I hope you find some!
