Sunny Hunny

A beautiful cold, clear day on the East coast, at Old Hunstanton. We visited my father-in-law, made him lunch and then spring cleaned the house, shining his windows and tidying the garden. He is 95 years old and very spry, but appreciates a little help. Afterwards, we went to the beach, to blow the cobwebs away. It was freezing, but so beautiful with those big skies and endless sands.

I know this stretch of coastline very well now, and never tire of it.

I love these beach huts. They are tucked away behind the dunes. Even when it's very cold and blowy, like today, there is always shelter here. I could feel the warm sun on my face. The boys (all three) were pounding a football on the beach, and I wandered off for a while....

Saw this...I wonder how much it is? Probably more than my house cost....

The thing that puzzles me is that I hardly ever see anyone in their beach hut. If I had one of these, I'd be there all the time (I know you're not allowed to sleep in them). I can't think of anything nicer than spending my days here. Some sandwiches, a flask, sketch books, a novel, maybe some sewing....and plenty of blankets.

Lovely to see the sun...and to have a whole family trip, which doesn't happen so much these days.

  1. I love those beach huts and dunes too! We went as a family a few years ago on Boxing Day and it was freezing. We have a similar photo with us all bundled up in coats, scarves, hats etc!

  5. Your photographs of the beach are wonderful. I have always admired the little beach huts that dot the coast lines, but never knew that you couldn't sleep in them. I just thought they were for weeks at the bench, probably bunk-beds or something like that. I'm very surprised.
It is wonderful to hear that your father-in-law is so spry at 95. That's delightful and I'm sure he truly appreciated all yur help.
My hubby and I are celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary this week and we are having a $25 give-a-way, please come over and get your name in the drawing :)
No we didn't marry on April fools day, we waited one day, so's not to be joked at for the rest of our lives :)
    Have a marvelous week,
    Your blogging sister, Connie

  6. Norfolk is always lovely beaches and lovely skies to me. It's the same with the beach huts on our beach you very rarely see them being used except on really hot days - such a waste. Sounds like you had a very good time and love the last picture of your three happy men. Karen xx

  7. We live in Devon in a seaside resort. This year we decided to rent a beach hut. It seemed foolish not to take advantage of them when they are on our doorstep. I am currently shopping for furnishings which is the best part, for me. Beach huts are Wendy Houses for adults, well for this adult! : )

  8. You are so right - you never see people in their Beach Huts! The amount they cost too I would be there all the time!

  9. We've just bought the beach hut in your photo that was for sale.
Not as expensive as you thought and it will be used lots by us and our extended family who all live within 15 miles of the Hut.
Keep a look out for us when visiting your Dad.
